The application is aimed to the professionals who have to gather data from various measuring tools and to send it to the collecting center.

Field workers can use their own J2ME cellphone to input all the data which has to be sent to the collection center. The application will get the data, validate the inputs locally, compose a message according to predefined layouts or to coding rules, and send it instantly to a central server over GPRS. Local validation of the inputs has been percieved as the biggest advantage for the network owners, increasing thus dramatically the quality of the collected data.

Synop editor has been used primarily for meteorological and hydrological observations in manual networks, being further extended to other industries (electricity and gas distribution, equipment rentals, and others).
